The opening is slow and deliberate, which suits a premium product, and the tray holds an insert perfectly flat because nothing folds over the contents. It also gives you two separate printed surfaces - the sleeve and the tray - to work with.
Snug enough that the tray will not slide out on its own, loose enough to draw with one hand. That fit is set at dieline stage, and it is the detail that most determines whether the box feels considered or cheap.
Yes - two pieces rather than one, and the tray has to be filled then sleeved. For a low-volume premium product that is fine; for high-volume fulfilment a single-piece carton will be considerably faster per unit.
