The corners lock into the side walls rather than relying on the fold alone, so the tray holds square under load without glue. It is the strongest hand-assembled tray we make and it still ships completely flat.
It has more folds than a plain tray, so it takes longer the first few times. The sequence matters - seating the locks in the right order is the difference between a ten-second assembly and a forty-second one. We supply the fold sequence with the dieline.
When you want the strength without the storage. A glued base arrives partly formed and takes more space; this ships flat and locks up when you need it. For businesses fulfilling from a small space, that trade is usually worth the assembly time.
